After the 2000 dot-com bubble burst, investors and venture capitalists became very cautious in funding internet-based start-ups due to the lack of long-term sustainability and profitability. Amazon, Microsoft, and Google were the companies that survived and thrived after the dot-com bubble burst, but it took a long time for them to be profitable. The mainstream adoption of the internet and the dot-com bubble in the 2000s have given birth to the early unicorns. As technology advances, semiconductor innovation has allowed faster, lighter, cheaper, and more intelligent mobile devices like smartphones, computers, and wearables.
